Brenda V. Fajardo
Brenda V. Fajardo (1940-2024) is a painter, stage designer, art educator, and curator. She studied printmaking under Manuel Rodriguez Sr., which led to a body of artworks in the graphic arts embodying personal introspection on the themes of self-liberation. Fajardo found inspiration from Philippine history and myths, interpreting the colonial past in light of contemporary issues of migration, human rights, political corruption, and women’s rights. She was awarded the CCP Thirteen Artists in 1992, the CCP Centennial Honors for the Arts in 1999, Gatpuno Antonio Villegas Award from the city of Manila in 2005, and the Gawad CCP para sa Sining for Visual Arts in 2012.
